I’ve tried to teach my little dog to respect her leash (it is her ticket out for a walk, after all) but she insists on chewing it the minute I attach it. Hence, we’ve gone through quite a few leashes in our five years together. [I would never use or recommend a metal chain leash, since even brief chewing on that can seriously damage a dog’s teeth.]
That’s why I was so excited to try the VirChewLy Indestructible Leash for Dogs. The leash is made of steel wires encased in a super strong vinyl coating that dogs can’t chew through. It’s lightweight (important for petite pooches) and at each end, there is a swivel clasp that is correct for the size of the leash. In other words, big dogs get the big leash size, with the big clasps, and little dogs get the little dog size with the small clasps. The handle is comfortable, easy-to-hold, and made of strong nylon webbing. When I put the leash on my little Poodle, she immediately started chewing. She gave up after several seconds and there was no damage to the leash whatsoever. At the end of the leash, near the swivel clasp, is a rubber stretchy cover, printed with the leash name. Little Lucia found she could put some serious teethmarks in this part of her new leash. But alas, nothing was damaged or weakened. This truly is a virtually indestructible leash! And I love how little the leash weighs, yet how strong it is. The length (4 feet long in the Extra Small size) was just perfect, too.
The VirChewLy Indestructible Leash comes in sizes for all dogs, as well as double versions for walking two dogs together. My little dog still insists on giving her leash a few chomps before heading out for our walk, but she doesn’t do any damage to it at all, and it’s comforting to know that she’s securely and safely attached during our excursions.
